Saltech Builds First Bridge Incorporating Hardwire Reinforcements

Saltech Engineering (Ontario, Canada) (www.saltechbridges.com) has completed their first bridge incorporating Hardwire reinforcements. The bridge has been installed in Eastern Canada and measures 50' x 18'. It has been issued a projected 150 year lifespan according to Canadian authorities. Using their proprietary composite construction system Saltech was able to complete the bridge from layup to completed product in a very short period of time. "Hardwire's permeability allows us to use it not only as a reinforcement, but also as an infusion aide. It wets out quickly and thoroughly while at the same time assisting the infusion of the glass," states Roy Salzsauler, co-owner of Saltech.

One of the first benefits Saltech noticed was the way Hardwire behaved on the shop floor. "You can step on it, drop it, yank it all around, and yet you cannot damage the fibers. After all is said and done it still lays flat and straight." The ability of Hardwire to be bent on 90 degree angles helped in the process as well. "We had some pretty thick sections and Hardwire's ability to control exotherm in the laminate and evenly distribute the heat was a tremendous advantage," noted Salzsauler.

The engineering community readily understood the material and approving the construction was an easy process for them. "We have a backlog of composite bridges to build in this area, from foot bridges to commercial traffic bridges, and all will incorporate Hardwire. Customer service is fantastic - any questions or problems have been dealt with promptly, courteously and efficiently. We look forward to a long and mutually beneficial relationship with Hardwire LLC."
