- Hardwire LLC - developer of proprietary high-tensile steel reinforcements and unique valued-added products for a variety of advanced composite and infrastructure applications - was recently granted the second of its fundamental technology patents from the United States Patent and Trademark Office. Patent #7,200,973 covers products and applications that use Hardwire® high-tensile steel reinforcements, Hardwire-reinforced composites and the process to make them. More specifically, the new patent covers all types of composite structures retrofitted or originally reinforced with Hardwire twisted steel cord composite materials, ranging from simple beams to complex building and armor structures. George Tunis, CEO of Hardwire and the author of the patent, said that Hardwire is becoming known as a material that opens new processing options for manufacturers. "Hardwire is self-infusing, easy to pultrude, and simple to mold into thermoset, thermoplastic and cementious composite structures," said Tunis. "Now, under the protection of this most recent patent, leading edge-manufacturers using Hardwire will be able to innovate with the piece of mind that their work can be protected from copy-cat technologies and knock-offs."
