Hardwire Bridge Armor Selected to Protect Key U.S. Bridge

(Pocomoke City, MD-June 23, 2008)-Hardwire Bridge Armor, the leading advanced armor solution for bridges and other critical infrastructure, has been selected as the product of choice for another important bridge located in the United States.

Hardwire Bridge Armor is a multi layered, multi-functional armor designed to provide protection for critical elements of bridges against various threats including IED, ballistic, blast, fire and other destructive forces. This armor solution evolved as a parallel effort to Hardwire LLC's advanced military armor programs, to protect U.S. infrastructure at reasonable costs in the wake of 9/11.

Recent recipient of the SAFETY Act (the Support Anti-Terrorism by Fostering Effective Technologies Act of 2002) designation, Hardwire Bridge Armor has extensive experience working with the industry's most respected bridge design leaders to develop armor systems that protect against various threats. "Major infrastructure, particularly cable supported bridges, can have single point vulnerabilities which require an enhanced level of protection. Given that our nation's infrastructure is an open access system, the use of guns, gates and guards is only partially effective at enhancing security," explains Ted Zoli, National Director of Long Span Bridge Design for the HNTB Corporation.

"Hardwire's understanding of the tight tolerances necessary for infrastructure protective measures fabrication and their focus on quality is a key to their success," said Zoli.

Another key to Hardwire Bridge Armor success is in its ability to change the materials within the design to meet a range of threats as determined by the owner of the structure. "Because of the flexibility and adaptability of the Hardwire technology, we are able to meet with the owner or engineer-of-record and develop a strategy that specifically meets each situation," describes Hardwire's Vice President of Infrastructure Armor System Skip Ebaugh, "Hardwire is not simply an off-the-shelf solution. We have the ability to customize the technology in a cost-effective manner."

Ebaugh added that the customization is aided by Hardwire's testing capabilities to validate the performance of its custom solutions. Hardwire's internal ballistic testing capabilities can test armor solutions against threats from small arms fire up to high velocity 20 mm fragment simulating projectiles (FSP). Hardwire also has off-site facilities which can test numerous weapons such as IED's, EFP's, and other terrorist grade threats, and in-house capabilities to build and model those same explosives.
